How to travel on a Budget?

In all honesty, exploring exotic places should not cost you a fortune, and you certainly do not need to win the lottery to travel around the world. So, how can you travel on a budget?

Here, in this article, we have put forth a list of some of the top tips to travel on a budget.

Plan your travel around off-peak travel times

Research about travel seasonality. What may be considered the off-season for one country may not be the same for other countries. Different countries have different travel seasons. Thus, this knowledge is pivotal. Just a little planning can save you from escaping large crowds and price hikes.

My husband and I plan an international trip every year. So, whenever we are tight on the budget, we travel to countries where the quality of life is inferior to ours, comments Marry, an online computer science tutor.

Well, that is indeed a brilliant idea, especially if you live in a country where the cost of living is exceptionally high, as in this case, you will have a plethora of options in hand. Alternatively, if you travel to these countries in the low season, your trip will be 100% within budget.

See, even if the flight cost is high, if you travel to Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, Latin America, or Africa, you can easily find good deals on activities and accommodation.

More so, the footfall will be lower in the off-season. So, you can enjoy the landscapes and activities.

Get a travel insurance

One of the best tips to travel on a budget is to get travel insurance. How? See, we understand that it may seem like an additional expense initially, but in any case, if your trip gets cancelled, you will thank yourself for being smart enough to get insured. Travel insurance will also guard you if you fall sick abroad.

Do some research

It is a common piece of advice, not only for travelling but for almost everything in life. So, what research are we talking about here? You need to know things, such as where the hotel or accommodation would be cheaper, cheaper ways to get from one place to another, or whether staying in a more affordable location will end up costing you more because of the heavy transportation involved.

Whenever I travel to a new destination, I always check their cab and taxi fares to ensure that the drivers do not loot me, comments Jessica, an assignment help Adelaide expert.

Cruising? – Book Early or Late

The best way to get a cheap cruise ticket is to travel six months in advance. It is because this is when the supply is more than the demand. Hence, you will easily get a booking at an attractive price. When the rooms started filling up, it was an indication of high demand, and with that, the prices were high.

However, there is one exception to this rule. When it is only a few weeks away from the cruise day, the prices again dwindle, especially when there are a couple of empty rooms. This is because the company intends to fill up to 100% occupancy before they take off. So, this is when you can find a sweet deal too.

Assess different airports for the departure

People who reside in a city that is not very far from the other hubs should always check the nearby airport rates or even an airport in a different city.

We reside in Toronto, but at times flying out of Hamilton, that is, about a forty-minute drive from Toronto, is way cheaper than flying from the Toronto airport, comments Daisy, who offers ‘take my online class for me’ services for students.

Well, we agree with Daisy on this. You can do similar research for your destination airport too. For instance, if you fly into Narita, it will be a lot pricier as opposed to flying into Hanita (in Tokyo). More so, the distance between the main city and the Narita airport is more.

So, you will end up spending a lot more on shuttles and taxis to take you to the city. Consequently, the cost will be even higher. Alternatively, since the Hanita airport is closer to the city, you will save a lot more.

Pick the airline wisely

Flying is expensive. The cost is even higher if you do not pick the right airline for the journey. Alternatively, a budget airline can help you save a lot of money, especially if you are smart enough to overcome the additional charges.

Further, you may even be charged extra money if you seek better perks, such as your choice of seat, or if you are travelling in a group or as a couple and want to sit together.

Also, a bag fee may be charged, even when you do not check the luggage. Budget airlines help you save a lot of money if you are okay with giving up on a little comfort.

Save on food

Always eat the local food. Why? Local food is always cheaper than the food from your country. Further, you should avoid eating at a luxury restaurant and instead opt for budget or medium-priced restaurants.

So, these are some of the useful tips that can help you save money while travelling. If you have any more tips to add to the list, do let us know in the comment section below. Also, you could consider RV camping with your friends/family as a cost-effective way to go travelling.
