The Link Between WEB3.0 and the Metaverse

2 Mins read

Overview

The Metaverse is a proposed extension of the Internet that would allow users to interact with each other in a virtual space. The phrase was coined by Neal Stephenson in his science fiction novel Snow Crash. In the novel, the Metaverse is a three-dimensional virtual world where people can meet and interact with each other.

WEB3.0 is the next generation of the World Wide Web that will focus on Semantic Web, Social Web, and Mobile Web. Semantic Web is a way to structure data so that it can be easily understood by computers. Social Web is a platform for people to connect and share information with each other. Mobile Web is a way to access the Internet using mobile devices.

The Difference Between WEB3.0 and the Metaverse

The Metaverse is often seen as the natural extension of WEB3.0. The two concepts are closely related because both of them focus on creating a virtual world where people can interact with each other. The main difference between the two is that the Metaverse is more focused on creating a virtual reality, while WEB3.0 is more focused on creating a semantic web.

Core technologies that construct WEB3.0

WEB3.0 is being built on the shoulders of some impressive new technologies. Some of these include blockchain, artificial intelligence, and the internet of things. Here are some of the core technologies that are helping to construct WEB3.0.

DecentralizedID (DID)

A DecentralizedID is a new type of identifier that is controlled by the user and not by any central authority. An example of a centralized identifier is an email address, which is controlled by the email provider. A DID is controlled by the user and can be used to identify the user on different platforms.

Blockchain

The Blockchain is a distributed database that stores data in a secure and tamper-proof manner.  The data is stored in blocks that are chained together. Each block contains a cryptographic hash of the previous block, which creates a secure link between the blocks. The Blockchain is used to store data such as transactions, contracts, and identities.

Smart Contracts

Smart contracts are computer programs that automatically execute transactions when certain conditions are met. For instance, a smart contract could be used to automatically transfer ownership of a piece of property when the owner dies. Smart contracts are stored on the blockchain and are executed automatically.

IPF

IPF is a decentralized file storage system that allows users to store and share files in a secure and efficient manner.  The IPF is built on top of the Interplanetary File System (IPFS), which is a decentralized file system. IPF uses content-addressing to store files, which means that each file is assigned a unique identifier.

VR/AR

These are virtual reality and augmented reality technologies that allow users to experience the world in a new way.  VR and AR can be used to create immersive environments where users can interact with each other. VR and AR are often used in gaming and entertainment applications. For instance, you can play online blackjack at a VR casino in the Metaverse.

Conclusion

The link between WEB3.0 and the Metaverse is important because both of them share the same goal of creating a virtual world where people can interact with each other. The technologies that construct WEB3.0 are also necessary for the Metaverse to function. Without these technologies, the Metaverse would not be possible.

The relationship between WEB3.0 and the Metaverse is similar to the relationship between the Internet and the World Wide Web. The Internet is the foundation that the World Wide Web is built upon. Similarly, WEB3.0 is the infrastructure that allows the Metaverse to exist.
